The TA Royal Signals
The Regular Army
43 Signal Squadron (AS) (V)
Forward Air Control Troop (V)
On joining the corps you will be allocated this rank, in reality this is no more or less than the Signaller rank. Once you have completed your recruit training you will become a signaller.
To obtain this rank you must have completed your Class 2 training, although you can achieve this rank at Class 3. Normally you will have completed a DITS course run by your regional brigades training team. (Note: In 12 Sig Grp units you will also need to have obtained the required driving license)
Corporals are all (at least) Class 2 and will have attended the Royals Signals Detachment Commanders course at the DCCIS Blandford. At this stage of your career you should also consider attending NBC, 1st Aid, AFV Recognition etc courses run by your regional brigade training team, you can attend them at LCpl but at this stage of your career they really benefit your promotion/profile.
To be promoted to Sgt you now have to attend a Class 1/Upgrader course at the DCCIS Blandford, also in 12 Signal Group you will also need to gain the relevant driving qualification (B+E for techs and RS Ops, Cat C for Relays and C+E for Gods Trade/AS Op or Electrician Driver.
Also at this stage (or earlier) you should now be considering which path to follow, you have two choices Supervisor or Regimental Duties (RD). These should now effect what other courses you attend i.e. Range Management Qualifications and Drill are good for the RD but near to useless for the Supervisor.
Same as SSgt.
Same as SSgt.
Once promoted to WO2 you can now consider going for a commission, normally a WO2 could expect to be commissioned as a Lt/Capt if they are selected on the Late Entrant Commissioning Board (LECB) run by 2 Sig Bde or 12 Sig Grp
Trades (& Training)
Firstly you need to meet the promotion requirements for a SSgt, have attended a security course (not named as it'll get edited out) at Blandford and the Yeoman of Signals course, both are two weeks long.
